Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio

Oh my gosh, I loved this movie. I admit, hearing that there was yet another Pinocchio movie being made, I really had my doubts. It's a Story that has been done and redone so many times that it isn't fresh anymore.

However, when I heard that Del Toro was doing it, and it was going to be Stopmotion, my interest was peeked. I was not disappointed.

Del Toro took a tired old story and made something really fresh with it. It was heart felt and enjoyable to watch from start to finish. The characters were fleshed out, the acting was spot on, the animation was flawless. Seriously, there is nothing about this film that I didn't like. Loved it

Great Job!

Henry Selick's Wendell & Wild Review

What Can I say? I was really disappointed with Henry Selick's Wendell & Wild Netflix movie. There isn't much in this film that was enjoyable. It was hard to get into it from the beginning. It just couldn't grab my interest.

There was a lot of moment's in the film where it felt the voice actors just phoned it in. Their performance was flat and didn't match the tone of the scene.

The character design was uninteresting. Characters who are not designed well, makes it difficult to care about them.

I didn't appreciate the s3xist stereotype of men always being the idiot buffoon (looking at you Father Bests). Our culture is always pushing the 'Strong Female' architype, but will turn around and make the male characters weak, dumb, clumsy, and the clown all the time. To say this doesn't have an blanketing affect on how men are perceived in general is dangerously misguided.

Then there's the subtle, not so subtle Political messaging. Prompting a radical racist group, while also inserting an Ant-white agenda. Nevermind creating a caricature of our former President as the villain. There is so much Left-Wng messaging in this movie that it isn't a film anymore, but propaganda. It wont age well.

However, all that aside, the plot was boring. It wasn't an interesting story. The characters were not adequately developed to care about any of them or what they were going through. Coupled with the flat performances of the voice actors contributed to not being able to take the scene/film seriously.

If I was to say anything positive about the film, is that the animation is good. They do a great job making you forget you are watching a Stopmotion Film.

The Nightmare Before Christmas Jack & Sally Replacement faces

Unpainted Jack and Sally Stopmotion Replacement faces
Auction here

The Nightmare before Christmas used the method of replacement animation for Jack and Sally's speech and expressions. Several hundred, if not thousand replacement faces were cast in resin for the production. Several of these faces where never finished after being casted. That is the claim for these two particular castings. I however, have my doubts. The resin color looks too new to have been casted 30 or so years ago.  For example:
Here is a photo from propstore.com

of original, unused replacement faces and the color in the resin is obviously different. This is due to the age of the resin. In addition to the color of the resin, there are no markings on the back of Sally's face. Even the unused faces above, show that each face was still marked.
All that to say, I believe the replacement faces in the auction are re-cast replicas (molds made off originals to create replicas), and not production made. At best, they are casts made from production molds, but done sometime after the movie was completed.
