Pink Palace Blueprints Take 2

Ok, as promised I made another ruff draft blueprints for the 1st floor of the Pink Palace. Since watching the special features on the Blu-Ray of Coraline, it seems that the design of each room was intended to feel off kilter, so I am not crazy. The model of the Pink Palace does not match the scale nor the window layout of each room. But that's OK. Now my drawing isn't to scale, but it is a close representation of where each room is and how the house is laid out. It is more closely based on the the Other Pink Palace as it was intended to be straighter and larger then the real world Pink Palace.

  1. You should look at the rear elevation on the ABC posters...namely 'P' is for palace. Your kitchen is on the wrong side, the bay in the rear has windows flanking it on each side-right where the cabinets would be. Also take another look at Dad's study. You can see one of the windows shuttered and to the left of the bay, but there is a wall to the right.

  2. Also, and this is VERY important, all the camera angles are exaggerated to conceal the fact that there are multiple doors into each room. The parlour has THREE. And that doorway which grants access to the hallway and lies directly across from one end of the dining room, is on the wall immediately to the left of the 'fake' angled wall with the mini-door into the Otherworld, NOT across from the chimney. You can orient yourself by checking the corners of the room, each of which contains a different feature. Still not entirely sure where the other doors go yet, or even how this relates to the rest of the plan, but I'll get back to you when I've got it figured out.

  3. I must retract my previous statements. Unfortunately they were based off of preconceived notions and having reviewed the movie, I must concede that you are correct. I simply found it hard to believe that in a situation where a physical model was created, the interior would not align with the exterior. This is most obvious in Coraline's bedroom, the door of which should be located on an exterior wall. I also confused myself in relation to the parlor. Parlors are typically used for entertaining and to that purpose are always located within direct proximity to the main entrance. Multiple doors are common but in this instance, I was anticapating something that wasn't there, no doubt due to the intentionally confusing camera angles.

  4. I am really impressed at how close these blueprints are to the actual house!! I have been watching the movie a lot recently to try to understand the floor plan and I have just now noticed how much stuff I was missing. I would have never guess the dining room had two doors to the green room nor that the parlor was towards the mid way of the house! I would really love to see the second floor Blueprints for this house also. Until then, amazing work on the first!
